School holiday programs in the sanctuaries

It’s of wide consensus that kids are spending more time inside – so we have put together a number of outdoor, nature play based events for kids these holidays to encourage them to step outside. Being located in the north and south of Canberra, there are activities near you.


SHO with Banks

North Canberra – Mulligans Flat, Forde.

Be the bettong: Build a nest, discover a digging and make some craft all inside the pristine and critically endangered woodlands. $10 per child. Book tickets here:

Hollow Homes: You have a comfy bed in a nice safe, warm house, but wild animals don’t live in houses – they live in trees! Trees themselves are very important homes for many types of wild animals and those homes are called hollows. $10 per child. Book tickets here:

Meet a bettong: Meet our ‘Ambassador’ bettong and enjoy a talk by one of our Ecologists about the biology of these rare creatures and their comeback at Mulligans Flat. $5 per person. Book tickets here:


Wetland Treasures kids and poo

South Canberra – Jerrabomberra Wetlands, Fyshwick

Bush Art: Take a walk around the Wetlands with the Ranger and along the way collect a variety of materials for you to make a brilliant masterpiece with back at the education centre. $8 per child. Book tickets here:

Boomerang Making: Create and decorate your very own boomerang with Ngunnawal man Rich Allan. Learn all there is to know to make and throw a Boomerang while hearing about Ngunnawal culture and language. $12 per child. Book tickets here:

Clay Sculpting: Take a short walk around the Wetlands with the Ranger for inspiration, and then get to work on your brilliant clay masterpiece. $8 per child. Book tickets here:
